My Birthday// 2017

My birthday 13th birthday was a couple days ago on the 26th! We didn’t do anything big on my actual birthday, but we did some things over the couple days beforehand. On the 24th we saw the Cirque Du Soleil show, La Nouba at Disney Springs! It was great! And on another day my sisters made a surprise party that was Harry Potter themed! I sadly didn’t get any pictures of this.

I got many presents, and I am very grateful for all of them, and these are a few of them. I am in no way trying to brag, and this isn’t everything (I would have a whole lot of pictures of giftcards) but that doesn’t mean if I didn’t mention something, I don’t absolutely love it! And these are in a completely random order!

*My dad is using my memory card for something, so I couldn’t take pictures sorry!

  • Ukulele!

I got a ukulele! I am sooo obsessed with it and I only know like two songs but I love it! If you were wondering, its a Kala Soprano ukulele! Also I will be naming it (I have thing for naming inanimate objects. don’t ask). I will be naming it Usnavi, after the character played by Lin-Manuel Miranda plays in one of my favorite musicals ever, In The Heights. The name is 100% official but I will probably keep it!

  • Fidget Cube!

I got a fidget cube! Look these up if you don’t know what they are, because it has been a life saver! It helps so much with anxiety, and I have a feeling that with it my History teacher will no longer have a need to yell at me for subconsciously clicking my pen.

  • Fandom T-Shirts!

I added to my collection of t-shirts for the Harry Potter and Twenty One Pilots fandoms!

  • New (& Old) Dolls!

My older sister gave me her two american girl dolls that she grew out of, Molly and MAG #23! My sisters also worked together and bought me a brand new Rebecca doll! I was so surprised, and I love her so much!

I am so grateful for everything that I got and I love it all! I had an amazing birthday! Thanks for all the birthday wishes, and everyone who helped me celebrate!

p.s. if anyone would be willing to make a sign-off for me just because they’re a nice person, that would be wonderful! I know absolutely nothing in the area of graphic design and editing and such, so if you could make one for me for free, please comment and I can get you my email and such!

p.p.s. The musical 21 Chump Street is great. It also makes me really mad. Just saying

5 Memorization Techniques

I was recently cast in my schools production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream as Fairy. Because of this, I now have lines I need to memorize. Also I have Bible verses I want to memorize. And I go to school so like I have to memorize things for tests and such. Basically, if you are a normal human and weren’t blessed with photographic memory, at multiple points in time you will have to memorize things. These are my strategies I use for making you memorize something faster and remember it for longer.

  • Movement

Sometimes just walking around or exercising while you read something will help you to remember it!

  • Writing

This one works really great for me. Basically if you just take what you want to memorize and write it out a few times, it helps you engrave it into your brain. Which sounds awful but is the goal here so..

  • Repetition

Just read it over and over again. Simple. Its how you memorize song lyrics, isn’t it?

  • Recording

This one is a bit odd, but it works. Record yourself saying what you want to memorize and then listen to it a bunch of times.

  • Cover up/ Erase a Couple Words Each Time

Basically write it out and read it out loud. Then erase a couple words and read it out loud again filling in the words you erased. Repeat until the whole thing is erased and you can recite it! This is easiest to do with a dry-erase board.

I hope these helped!

What memorization techniques do you usually use for things?

p.s. shout out to Isabelle Hyde who released her new song Ode to Midday on YouTube and it was really good and made me cry. Like a lot.

p.p.s. shout out to God for forgiving even though i’m really stupid sometimes (most times)

How to PROPERLY Crack the Spine of a Book

Salutations, frens!

Today’s topic is VERY important.

When you are reading a new paperback for the first time it becomes cracked and it kinda ruins the spine. For example, this happened to my beloved copy of Neverseen.:

My friend was borrowing my copy of the first Keeper of the Lost Cities book which I had not read out of yet. (I had read a different copy of the book.) And she taught me how to properly loosen up or “crack” the spine of a book so when you’re reading it doesn’t end up like my copy of Neverseen. And since this is very useful information that I am very grateful to now have, I would like to pass it on to you, if you do not already know.

This is a very simple process.

First you take the book and put it on a hard surface like this.

Then you go back and forth from the front of the book and the back, taking small sections and pressing them down like this.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Don’t go from cover to cover. Go back and forth from either end, working your way to the middle. Also be careful to do smaller chunks so you don’t actually crack the spine.

You should repeat this once or twice, and then you’re good!

You have a brand new, loose-spined, paperback, safe for reading without cracking the spine!

Have fun reading!

Current Favorite Musicals/ Soundtracks

I am a huge musical theater nerd. I love Broadways and am obsessed with several musicals. Here are the top ones I’ve been listening to the soundtracks of recently!

  • Hamilton.

I am HUGE Hamiltrash and am constantly listening to Hamilton. If for some reason you haven’t heard of Hamilton go listen to the soundtrack. Now. Who doesn’t love the Founding Fathers of America rapping?

  • In The Heights.

Another creation by the GENIUS of Lin-Manuel Miranda. He is a great man.

  • Dear Evan Hansen.

This is a fairly new musical, which my theater teacher got me hooked on. It only has 14 songs, but they are amazing and the story is really great!

  • Wicked.

I saw the Wicked in January when the Broadway cast toured to a kinda local professional theater in my state! It is soooo amazing! I love how it gives you another perspective on the Wizard of Oz, and I love how you get to see how the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, and Scarecrow all came to be!

  • Matilda.

I actually got to see Matilda the Musical on Broadway in New York a couple years ago and it was so amazing! It was the first musical I ever fell in love with, and I literally started crying when I got the tickets for Christmas! It’s really an amazing musical!

If you haven’t heard the soundtracks for, or even heard of any of these musicals, I highly recommend you go listen to them! You will not regret it!

Obviously, these aren’t the only musicals I like, but I couldn’t mention all of them! If you have a favorite that I didn’t mention, mention it in the comments and I’ll tell you if I like it! And if I haven’t heard of it or listened to it, I’ll add it to my “To Become Obsessed With” List!

~Julia ❤

p.s. Thank Y’all so much for getting me to 30 followers, that’s amazing!!

p.p.s. Sorry I haven’t been posting a lot on here lately, I’ve been super busy!

p.p.p.s.  But it paid off, because we scored the highest possible score across the board at my band competition for my school’s band, so yay us!

Internet Friends

I’m just going to get right to the point here. You can be friends with people on the internet. You don’t have to meet a person face to face to become close with them.

I have an internet best friend. Her name is Haley. We live miles and miles apart but we are still best friends. And I really hope I get to meet her someday.

Obviously, you should still be extremely safe when talking to people on the internet and never give out too much information; but not everyone out there is a sketchy old man. There are ways to know you can trust someone on the internet. For example, you could video call with them! I know not everyone can facetime, because you may not have an iPhone or probably wouldn’t want to give them your number. But how Haley and I do it is we both have this app called Oovoo that lets us text, call, and video chat without knowing each others numbers! For free! It’s great!

Also don’t go out on the internet and beg random strangers to talk and become friends with you. Let it happen naturally. Haley and I met through fan pages of our common interests, Twenty-One Pilots and Bratayley, on Instagram. We both followed several of the same fan pages and then one fateful day (January 31st, 2016 to be specific. Yes, we’ve been friends for over a year) we messaged each other, then it became a regular thing, and now we’re best friends!

Another thing is, if you have an internet friend(s) and are terrified to tell your parents (like me and Haley were) just go for it. Both of our parents were surprisingly okay with it. I’m sure your parents will be supportive.

Haley and I have grown very close over the past year and couple months. She means everything to me, and I really hope I will get a chance to break the distance between us, and meet to face to face finally. Yes. You can be friends with people you meet online. Internet friends are real. Times have changed, people. This is possible now. Deal with it.

Bye Y’all!

~Julia ❤

p.s. shout to God for always being there when i think i have to figure things out on my own and start freaking out about it. He always has a better way in store. always.

2. Escape Room

Last weekend, for my friend’s birthday we went to an escape room! It was sooo much fun! And we actually escaped!! With 8 seconds left! But we did use up all our clues.. But it was so much fun and I’m very proud of us 🙂
